Mary Jane Lovering is a founding partner of Vertechs Design Inc. established in 1981. She practiced as a physiotherapist for five years with a Diploma in Physiotherapy from Queen's University.
Her work as an innovative care giver included the design of hydrotherapy programs for children with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. Studies in Gerontology have lead to the planning of outdoor environments specific to the elderly. This interest and experience has resulted in the design of outdoor environments for special populations including children and for those with various disabilities.
With an interest in special populations she was instrumental in directing research into the relationship between function and outdoor spaces. Vertechs Design Inc was the first landscape architecture firm to study this relationship and establish principles of design still used as a primary source today
Extra professional activities included serving as a board member for nine years for the West Park Health Care Centre. Lovering was unique in seeing the neighborhood context as an integral part of the campus.
